Satellite Information

• There's more information available on the Satellite page beyond current location, accuracy and elevation.

Satellite Map

• Determine satellite location relative to your current position:

• Zenith: Satellites located directly overhead provide better accuracy when calculating vertical position.
• Elevation: Most visible satellites are found midway in the sky and are best used to determine horizontal position.
• Horizon: Satellites near the horizon are more sensitive to geographic obstructions and therefore less reliable.
• Select (Menu) > [Track Up] to view the compass heading centered at the top of the screen.
• Select (Menu) > [North Up] to lock the compass ring 'north up' with serving as a dynamic heading indicator.

Signal Strength

• Satellite signal acquisition sequence and signal:noise ratio status:

• A: Searching for a known satellite signal.
• B: Satellite signal located, downloading data.
• C: Satellite data contributing to location calculation.
• D: SBAS information has been applied and satellite signals are Differentially corrected.

Use With GPS On

• Equipped with a high-sensitivity GNSS receiver with HotFix satellite prediction, the GPSMAP 66 can locate your position quickly and precisely while maintaining its GPS location under heavy cover or in deep canyons.
• GPS, GPS + GLONASS, GPS + GALILEO, and WAAS/EGNOS can be enabled/disabled in [Setup > System > Satellite].
• Select [Single Color] to use day/night colors selected in [Setup > Display > Appearance].
• Choose [Multicolor] to visually enhance satellite map and corresponding signal strength bar association.
• Select [Satellite Setup] for quick access to Satellite settings.

GPS

GPS + GLONASS

• Press D-PAD to alternate display between GPS and GLONASS

Use With GPS Off

• Disable the GPSMAP 66 GNSS receiver to simulate your location, navigation, and other activities.
• Select [Single Color] to use day/night colors selected in [Setup > Display > Appearance].
• Choose [Multicolor] to visually enhance satellite map and corresponding signal strength bar association.
• Select [Set Location On Map] to configure simulated location.
• [AutoLocate Position] clears saved satellite signal information and begins a new search for local signals.
• Select [Satellite Setup] for quick access to Satellite settings.

Set Location On Map

Select [Set Location On Map]	Position cursor at desired location and Select [Use]	Map page now displays position at selected location	Zoom in and explore!

 

 

Recording Controls

• Press (Enter) to quickly access essential recording controls, and (Quit) to return to the Satellite page.
